The 2019 Serious Games Showcase & Challenge (SGS&C) announced this year’s winners of the annual serious games competition at an awards ceremony at the conclusion of the Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference (I/ITSEC). Twenty-five finalists, chosen from the original entries submitted in late summer, competed for awards in several categories. i3’s serious game, Talon, was chosen as the People’s Choice winner, an award that is voted on by the attendees of I/ITSEC.
Developed by Integration Innovation, Inc. (i3) for the U.S. Army PEO-Aviation Utility Helicopter Project Office, Talon provides instruction on how to operate a thermographic camera (FLIR) during military maneuvers. The player experiences combat related perspectives during a wartime enemy engagement and participates in extracting an injured soldier from a hostile environment, while engaging enemy combatants from different mission profiles/platforms. This extraction event must take place within “The Golden Hour”, a finite timeline that facilitates maximum survival rate for the injured soldier.
